need a new jack...

Featured Replies

Hey guys-

While putting my summer tires back on last night, my reliable jack somehow seized up and now won't budge. I bent the hell out of the handle trying to get it out too, unfortunately...so it looks like I need a new one.

I'd like to get an original Subie one since they fit in the compartments so conveniently. I've tried all the online parts stores...anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance...

Go to a Junkyard...

They have them all over the place.:)

i got one at a junkyard for $4.00

I have several of different sizes/styles in my parts bin. Let me know if you're interested.

Same thing happened to me last weekend. The threads all stripped out while I was trying to get the car up. Weird.

Are there any small hydraulic jacks(bottle jack) that will fit under an impreza? I got a 2ton bottle jack, it would be perfect if it was an inch smaller.

I know you said you wanted one that would fit in the compartment, but my Subaru jack stripped out also, so why would you want another one. Let me suggest the little jack that Wal Mart sells it looks like it is part bottle jack and part scissor jack it comes in a small black case so it does not rattle. It works great and it does not take up much room in the back. However if you want one that will fit I bought one from Northern tools before I bought the Wal Mart jack it works well and fit in the compartment it looks almost like the Subaru Jack, I dont know if they still carry it but you could check their web site. On the Wal Mart jack I am not taking about the small floor jack in the black case, its the small hyd. scissor jack in the black case.

if any of you have your scissor jacks out and wouldn't mind measuring how high they go, please PM me the # of inches/cm's. I am asking because I want to know how much taller yours go than one in a Brat.

Why don't you get a nice cheap hydraulic floor jack to do all the stuff you do at home? You can get one for less than 20 bucks if you shop around, and they are more stable than the standard jack.

Put some grease on the jack that stripped out last week. It's working again after some convincing. I wonder is it's good to keep the threads greased all the time. I'm glad it works because it's nice to have the jack that fits in the compartment. (Junk yard didn't have any Subaru jacks.)

Remember that the jack has to fit when you need it most. When you have a flat tire. The car is much lower then.

Been there, never again!

The threads only need to be greased if you want it to work the next time.

Just ask the crew and passengers that were on the Alaska airlines flight that went down off the coast of California how much importance grease has on a large screw drive.

Try the scrap yard. My friend has a pos toyota and the jack is the exact same as my subaru jack. As long as it fits in the nifty compartment, it doesnt matter if it is subaru stock or not.
