paradisemotel
I just wanted to let you know, that I bought the Subaru that I had my eye on. ( the one with the noisy lifters) I did a oil chang, (20-50) and a 1\2 quart of Power punch. and set off to Oklahoma! I had no problems other than a loose battery cable! Thank you for all the fine information that y'all gave me!! I got close to 31mpg the whole time with 45lbs. oil pressure. No noisy lifters! It did use some oil, but that is normal for the 200,000 miles on it. Well now I have another Subaru a 1989 Loale, but it has a oil leak , it looks like a seal around the front left axle, never working on one, how much trouble to pull this apart and replace the seal? It leaks right on to the exhaust pipe. that is why the guy gave it to me, his mechainic told him it would cost more to fix than the car is worth, I know better, it only has 125,000 miles on it. and a one owner in great shape! any suggestions! Thankyou guys!!! Nick Coby Washington State
GeneralDisorder
Well - it depends on what's leaking - it could be the grease from the axle itself, in which case you just need to change the axle out. Or it could be the stub axle seal on the transmission. Either way you need to pull the axle. Do a search on the board here and you will find TONS of info on that. Both are pretty easy to fix, but if it's the side seal that's gone, you should inspect the front diff for any play, as that will be the deciding factor on weather you will be replacing the tranny as well.... paradisemotel
Well that will never happen, as far as the tranny goes. But I think it is just a seal, it is all right driving, then when you stop it starts dripping. so, I will build a drip pan if need be. I t was free, but Not willing to dump a bunch of money or work into it,, Thanks! Nick
paradisemotel
Oh Gd I should mention that it is leaking right out around the axle (where it plugs into the motor) I figure it won't be that tough, if it is just a seal
