August 24, 201312 yr 99 outback- 2.5dohc. no knocking, pulled engine to replace hgs and timing, reinstall, now knocks what could i have done to cause this?
August 24, 201312 yr You sure? By that I mean long ago folks here recommended MMO for noisey 2.2 and 2.5's after they have been setting for a whiel or after no oil - like a HG job for instance. MMO and a spirited drive helps a lot. But usually that's cams n stuff. Top end noises.
August 24, 201312 yr How fast does the oil pressure light turn off after starting? When you took the heads off did you pull all of the shims out of the buckets for the valves? The shims set valve lash clearance and can not get mixed up. They have to go back exactly where they came from.

August 24, 201312 yr Author i put all the shims back where they went, oil pressure cant shut off fast enough. i went out and beat it like it owed me money- noise bubye violence solves everything!
