odd knocking

Featured Replies

99 outback- 2.5dohc. no knocking, pulled engine to replace hgs and timing, reinstall, now knocks

what could i have done to cause this?

You sure?

By that I mean long ago folks here recommended MMO for noisey 2.2 and 2.5's after they have been setting for a whiel or after no oil - like a HG job for instance.

MMO and a spirited drive helps a lot.  But usually that's cams n stuff.  Top end noises.

How fast does the oil pressure light turn off after starting?

When you took the heads off did you pull all of the shims out of the buckets for the valves? The shims set valve lash clearance and can not get mixed up. They have to go back exactly where they came from.

I believe a 99 is pure HLA, not shims like 97's.
