squatty
The odometer in my daughter's '95 Impreza stopped working and I'm thinking I should try and replace the gauge cluster. I believe the legacy cluster will swap in fine and they are much easier to find in the junk yards. I've read through what I can find using the search but I was wondering if anyone has experience replacing an impreza cluster with a legacy cluster. I'll start by searching for the same year Legacys and Imprezas.
Legacy777
Does the speedometer still work? The odometer and speedo are one integrated unit. So if one works and the other doesn't some of the plastic gears in the odometer might have broke. There are subtle enough differences in the shape of the gauge cluster, plus different wiring that would make swapping the clusters prohibitive IMO. If the speedo does not work, then I would check the cable. Is her Impreza an auto or manual? If auto, the base piece that screws into the transmission where the cable attaches is common failure point. They are pretty easy and cheap to replace. Here's a pic of it. www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru/images/speedocablebase.jpg
squatty
Thank you for the reply. My daughter's car is an automatic and the speedometer was still working. I wa actually able to find an Impreza cluster of the same year! I replaced it and the speedometer and odometer are both working. Now I just have to take it back out in the morning and figure out why half of the lights are not working.
