Outback 5MT reverse switch

Featured Replies

Looking at the wire diagram in the service manual does not say were the switch is I need to tap a wire for a rear view camera.

switch is on the transmission case.  alternately could tap the reverse light wires in the rear.

I might just tap the switch on the transmission I don't want to have to use more wire than I have to

instrument cluster has a R light for reverse, so that may be an interior option as well.

The reason why I ask this is because on the back of the head unit is a wire I need to tap for the unit to know when the car is backing up so it can switch to the camera.. it's not a long wire it's maybe about middle ways of the center console.. the reverse lights must get some power from a fuse box or something.. I just don't remember where the switch was when looking at the shift boot, On my other transmission I took out the neural and reverse switches but just can't remember where and what pushed on the switch to trigger it.

The switch is on the side of the trans and is actuated by the reverse check mechanism in the trans.

Power flow goes Fuse, switch, lights, so you need to tap into the wiring between the switch and lights.

The wire for the back-up lights runs down the passenger rocker panel. 24 pin connector B99 in the kick panel (either transparent or white) pin 10 should be Brown&Yellow. With the lock tab on top, pin 10 is second in from the right.

I would tap in there. Extend the wire to join there if you need to.

Ok I will check tomorrow I'm not going to put the camera on just yet because I have to switch out the hatch.. which btw do you have the part number for that part that always rusts out the one that the handle mounts on? both my lift supports never raise by themselves so I always have to help them but at least it stays up!

I assume it's easy to swap the locks?

Hmm I can tap for ground near B99 right?

Not sure what you need a ground for but any metal part of the dash will do. The closer it is to the component being grounded, the better.

Not sure about the latch issue.

I saw the wire but it was not the pin but it was reversed so I ended up finding it with my meter, yes it was brown/yellow but not in the pin slot like the manual showed or you said.

I was on my way to putting parking sensors in the car but geez that stupid thick styrofoam right behind the bumper.. it's not as easy to get into the car (passenger side rear tail light) from outside the car
