October 30, 201312 yr Hi, I'm Nate. I own a 92' Legacy wagon. My original phase 1 2.2 started knocking horribly so I started the quest for another 2.2. So I bought a phase 2 2.2 out of a 2000 Impreza. I have come to realize the ecu/harness won't work and I'm on a tight budget... should I swap my heads and intake manifolds?
October 30, 201312 yr That's the only thing you can do with the 2000 block. Be sure to swap over the crank timing sprocket as well.
October 30, 201312 yr I'd sell the 2000 intact and pick up the correct motor. You should be able to get one for less than the cost of the gaskets, time and work.
October 30, 201312 yr consider a 2.5 block and swap your heads and manifold to it. Otherwise, any 2.2 engine thru 98 will match the intake.
October 31, 201312 yr Author I bought the 2000 2.2 for $300 with the ecu.. what would a good asking price be for it? The engine has less than 150k, very clean bottom end tight compression Edited October 31, 201312 yr by bulletprooflegacy
October 31, 201312 yr It's had to sell an engine that you have not seen run, but I'd think you'd get $500 for it anyway. If you were willing to either install it for the person so they know it runs or give them 30 days that would help. As a private individual, that's not to practical. If you were in CO, I'd take it from you.
November 1, 201312 yr look for 1990 thru 1994 - will be a very simple swap - plug and play. 95 i beleive is when they made the engine harness changes (plugging in on right side of tranny vs left side of engine by the underhood fuse box)
November 1, 201312 yr the 90-91 harness plugs in different than 92-94, but just swap the harness on the intake with your original and you will be good.
November 1, 201312 yr can o worms find right engine or switch heads over and use thick 2.2 headgaskets from ej2.2 T
November 1, 201312 yr Author Thanks so much. If this car goes as far as I hope I will give credit where its due haha
