Water coming from exhaust pipe

Featured Replies

I have a 86 subaru turbo gl10 and when I start it up water comes from around the exhaust pipe where it mounts to the head? Can any one help me out by telling me what is causing this? Some tell me it may be from a blown head gaskit.

Does it smell sweet, like burning coolant? Is your exhaust puffing out white smoke at all while running?

cracked exhaust port: junk head. this is true if the coolant is coming out of the exhaust por itself. There is a water pipe on the head, check the banjo bolt copper washers, and the rubber hose that goes to the turbo and the 2 clamps.

if the coolant is dripping off the back of the head, see if there is any on the top of the engine as it could be the small hose between the thermostat housing and the top of the block

Cracked head.  The turbo heads almost always develope cracks in the exhaust port where the divider between the 2 chambers joins the wall.

Can be welded.  But not that economical.

You can keep driving it like that if you keep up the coolant level.  Not great for the turbo but I'd just keep nursin' er along til you are ready to EJ swap it.
