nothing we have seen in our various contortionist trips under the dash or under the hood. doesn't mean we couldn't have missed something....

Only in the sense that it seems worse. We did find a sbf under the hood blown. It has been replaced, and we have juice going to fuse panel now, but still not getting to the pump. However now, we cant even get it to fire on starting fluid. Hopefully with warmer temps here we can get back out to it and make some progress

Update as of today. We hooked a battery straight to fuel pump and it shot across the driveway, so the pump itself is good. Weird thing.....when the pump is hooked up, we get no spark....if we disconnect the pump, then we have spark....I don't have any idea how that happens. We feel the relay make a thump...best way I can decribe it, lol. But somewhere from there, things go awry......

Remember if you are reading voltage with no load on the circuit the meter can lie to you.

Check out www.brighterideas.com or LoadPro on Youtube.

Dan has some great electrical training.  If you located the relay, you can remove it and jump the main contacts, that would provide power to the pump always.

Do you have a Subaru or aftermarket Security system?

I've removed so many of the aftermarket ones that were bad.  Junk.

No aftermarket, just whatever Subaru has in there. We have juice going to relay, and coming out other side, but it isn't getting back to the pump. We are currently staring at wiring diagrams trying to see what goes where. Thanks for the link, will definitely check it out!!

OK, so far this is what we have done:

1. replaced fuel pump and o ring, and checked cap for any cracks.

2. checked wiring: power and ground to fuel pump circuit are both good.

3. SBF5 was blown-changed with good fuse.

Still no power to pump and no power to ignition. The engine had been able to run on starting fluid, but now theres no fire to plugs. Wiring between relay and fuel pump was tested with ohmeter and there was no resistance. Checked ground to body at fuel pump and ground is good.

How is the power to the ignition and power to the fuel pump connected?

Is the security system after market... if so, your security system has shorted & is preventing the car from starting (a safety mechanism).... perhaps.

nope...nothing aftermarket. Strangely the security light has stopped. we have done the reset by removing the battery cable trick a couple times.....that seems to be the only thing it has accomplished.
