February 24, 201412 yr 85 Brat...the wiring bundle that goes to the center console...4 plugs total...1 is the light for the ashtray. 2 are for the OEM radio. the 4th plug went no where...I'm guessing optional seperate tape deck??? has 7 wires going to it.
February 24, 201412 yr hi, can't say positive but likely for an auto shifter setup, they had a bunch of wires from the shifter , but i thought it came up from beside the tunnel . or it could be for power window switch which was mounted near the radio set.
February 25, 201412 yr Author power windows on an old Brat???? well it does have the cruise control too which I thought was kinda over board on an 80's economy brand. I also have a rear? defroster switch, which has power to it...but there is no rear defroster???
February 25, 201412 yr They only made one heating/cooling panel cover to save money. Brats do not have a rear defroster but wagons, hatchbacks, sedans, and coupes do. I put in the cover the other day in my wagon from one out of a brat which is the same exact piece you just have to push the plastic cover out and screw the switch in.
February 25, 201412 yr Author hmmm...free switch for somethng else? off road lights? does it operate a relay or can the switch handle the defroster power directly?
February 25, 201412 yr There would be a relay on a vehicle equipped with the defroster, it's probably not there on yours bit could be installed.
February 25, 201412 yr Author trick is to find the other end of the plug that the relay attached to. Prob under near the fuse box. I've got several un-plugged plugs... but my brat seems to have had some hack jobs in the past...or one universal harness for all models and option possibilities (gl, dl, wagon, etc)? Often it's cheaper to manufacture one "all-in-one" harness.
February 25, 201412 yr It's pretty much like that, the gl's that I've seen have a pretty standard body front body harness and dash harness, the dl's are the same way, from dash back it varies depending on body type.

So in theory my 88 DL should have the wiring/plugs already for power options (mirrors, locks, windows) then? If so, then sign me up for those upgrades Edited February 26, 201412 yr by TheWanderer
February 26, 201412 yr Can't say specifically for the ea82 cars, I was speaking more for the ea81 body cars.
February 26, 201412 yr So all the Brat GLs should have a plug for power mirrors? That would be kinda nice, just have to find the power mirrors, since I have a controller switch already.
February 26, 201412 yr This should be handy if you can find all the bits for it : Cheers, Bantum … Edited February 26, 201412 yr by Bantum

February 26, 201412 yr Author wow...you got a complete pic of that dash harness with all the plugs labeled? would be nice to know what all the un-connected ones go to. I'm always wondering if I should be trying to plug them all in or not worry about it.
February 27, 201412 yr Factory manuals come in handy with some of this stuff and having cars that came with everything helps too find out where stuff goes. I remember seeing a link to a factory manual download on here maybe some has it and will chime in. There are a lot of test plugs on the harness to test voltage and resistant so there will be a few that don't go anywhere.
