Well..we picked up our 1985 RX Sedan rally car that we are going to convert into a rally car a couple weeks ago.

Now...from looking at it, it has the RX Stickers on the rear doors, the 4wd Turbo thing between the rear lights, and those ugly rump roast aluminum rims.

Mechanically...it has the EA82T, with the Dual Range Tranny, and rear LSD.

Now...the weird parts.

Looking under the hood. NO powersteering...but has A/C.

Looking inside the car....it has manual windows, no checkerboard seats (but checkered seat belts, and no sunroof.

Was this a very early 1985 RX Turbo sedan?? that didn't come with any options??

and...no...we aren't complaining because it just means the car is lighter :D

You may need to call Subaru of America to get a definitive answer on this one. Their # is 1-800-Subaru3. You'll need to supply them with the Vin#.

While you have them on the line, you may as well ask them a little about the history of the car. (where it was first sold, original owner) as well as recall info. They won't always give you the original owners info, but if you do get it, you can start to piece together enough information to make some reasonable assumptions about the kind of life your car has had.

good luck, John

We know the car is from California. It was purchased from Pasadena Subaru (the papers are in the car)

It was up here in Canada, and we bought it for $300 CDN.

The car was able to drive itself back to our place once we put decent tires on it....The trip was about 120 kms.

What is the VIN? There should be a metcal on the door frame (driver side below the striker plate), what is the date shown there?

i gotta get the VIN off my buddy he has the ownership for it.

I did look at the plate and it was build 01/85

Oh yeah..it also has an Analog Dash, and the height adjustable front spring perches

This is the typical 85 RX. Power steering did not come standard with them, nor did power locks. The checkerboard seats were notorious for tearing at the side bolsters and were probably replaced. All 85 EA82's had the adjustable spring perches.

Like Corky said- the VIN will tell the whole story.

'85's were an odd lot. I know of an '85 GL10 MPFI(non-turbo) 2wd auto. It has all the options but doesn't have the standard moonroof that was part of the GL10 pkg.

I would say the VIN will be the deciding factor. The rest is just fluff anyways.
