March 13, 201412 yr Looks like I might need to get a new trans. I have a subaru gl with the automatic 4wd, what would I need to convert it over to a 4 or 5 speed dual range? I know nothing about were to start and would love the help thanks...
March 13, 201412 yr you would need a trans, clutch kit, pedal box, cltch cable, possibly the xmember as well but i dont remember it looking different. he thinks the trans is going bad because its a G3 AT. lol, probably the governor if its the trans at all
March 13, 201412 yr Author I'm not sure the trans is bad, the other day I was going down the interstate and went to slow down and the car completely locked up, had it towed home and when he was unloading it and what ever had locked up unlocked. I talked to a couple people and the said it was prolly the brake caliper so I rebuilt them and when u drove it it ran fine and changed gears but when I let off the gas there is this grinding/ whining sound. I could use some help cause I'm not sure what could be wrong. I had also drained all the trans fluid and it was free of all metal or anything... Thanks
March 13, 201412 yr Author I can give anyone that wants it a link to the vid I took of the noise, it won't let me post it here my email is gwywnc at aol . Com
March 14, 201412 yr Not meaning to hijack a thread (but shamelessly doing it anyway ), what if a guy wanted to go the other way? Go from manual to automatic? John
March 14, 201412 yr the front diff is broken. replacing the trans is best. repairing it is too expensive. findin another good 3at would be harder than swapping a 5 spd. A donor car will give you all the parts you need. All of the parts will be bolt up with no mods. These swaps have been documented many times if you find them in the search. google brings results from USMB as their search function is more productive with results vs the forum's search.
