May 10, 201411 yr So my '89 DL wagon doesn't ride too bad for a small car with 260K on the clock. My only complaint is it doesn't seem to like the incessant high winds we get here. With that in mind, is there a combination of shocks and sway bars that might help mitigate the wind effects? I understand its a light weight, high profile vehicle and it's never going to stick to the road like a vette, just want to make it the best it can be. Thoughts and opinions welcome! John
May 10, 201411 yr I don't know that any suspension work short of fusing everything solid (ha!) would help with that wind. As you mention, your wagon is the not-so-stable combination of fairly low weight and a higher, slab sided profile. I've ridden in heavy duty pickup trucks on I-75 going down south of Pueblo CO to the Sangre De Cristo mountains, and every time we hit that one stretch of highway with the "high wind" warnings......that pickup was getting rocked. Sometimes hard enough to nearly change lanes. The best cure: being alert, and bigger forearms.

May 10, 201411 yr I just replaced all shocks,struts on corners on my loyale and it was OK after that. The rear still floated over on turns. I also had some crap differential mount bushings. After I filled in the rear differential mount bushings with 3M window weld, the rear stiffened up to the point where the front was even better too. I feel like Im on rails now. I can see the front sway bar bushings are toast so I may see what I'm looking for answers for that here too.

May 13, 201411 yr suprjohn.... those high winds are generally called tornados. You need to pull over under the nearest overpass, get out of the car, get up under where the overpass meets the 45 degree foundation, put your head between your knees... and get ready to kiss your butt goodbye. I know this cause I grew up in tornado alley. Have you seen my dog.. Toto?
