Yester I became the owner of a 2009 (4th gen) Outback with for Europe all options including VDC and limited dark red leather. It has a 2.5 bi-fuel system linked to the 4eat. This is quite a big step forward from my 1.6 impreza from 1999 with no options at all (no airbags, abs no nothing not even a/c). My car before that was a FWD automatic legacy (1st gen). But now:

 

The user manual states to use the AWD-fuse in case of mismatched tires when no VDC system is present and it is an automatic. However it does not state what to do when VDC system is present on an automatic. I have not checked if the fuse location is present.

VDC = do nothing. VDC has a center diff which can tolerate some mismatch from using the spare.

Ah, OK. Thanks. I thought VDC was only electronics add-on as part of the ABS system.

I don't think this is true.  Still uses a 4eat with Hydraulic MPT clutch.

 

Perhaps turn VDC off then use fuse???

my 01 VDC has a VDC ''off'' fuse holder,

but it does not have a FWD fuse holder.

 

actually the VDC off fuse holder is the same location as the FWD fuse but it does not make the car FWD.

 

i think later years have a VDC off ''switch'' inside the car,

but i'm not sure.

i do not know if later VDC years have a FWD fuse holder?????

VDC has an MPT that the computer never 'slips' it is always full on or full off, and it is only locked during extreme wheelslip.

 

The fuse has no effect.
