Driving home last night, 1999 Subaru Legacy Outback 2.5 was running fine when all of a sudden it turned rough and Check engine light started flashing. Previous to this, there had been some very intermittent missing, which my mechanic attributed to bad gas/clogged injectors. I ran some Sea Foam through and everything seemed ok.Apparently there is a cylinder not firing. Any ideas on where to start?

new plugs and wires are almost always a good idea,

especially if you have not replaced them in several years.

but if it started running ruff, all of a sudden

maybe the timing belt slipped a few teeth.

how old is the timing belt?

how many miles?

how long have you had the car, miles?

any recent work?
