July 6, 201411 yr So I've got an 84 EA81 wagon and it idles really rough. I recently did a weber conversion and changed the head gaskets and and there are no vacuum leaks, it still idles rough. What could be causing this?
July 14, 201411 yr Author Triple checked and can't find any vacuum leaks. Also has a new PVC valve. Idles rough above 900 rpms and won't idle at all below that. Anyone have any ideas?
July 15, 201411 yr Author Forgot to say already have new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and fuel filters. The tach jumps up and down at idle also.
July 16, 201411 yr Did you check the float? They get bounced around in shipping quite a bit and can get damaged. Truthfully, I've only installed two, but both were off.

July 17, 201411 yr Author I rebuilt the weber so I think the float is probably good. Checked the distributor and there definitely is some play when I wiggle the rotor. Not sure how much is too much though...
July 17, 201411 yr Anything more than barely perceptible is too much. The reluctor air gap is only .020" maximum. The jumping tach is a dead give away that you need new distributor bushings or a new disty.
July 17, 201411 yr Author The tach only fluctuates a couple hundred rpms so I think a rebushing should do it.
