July 10, 201411 yr I put the auto trans from a 97 legacy into a 98 legacy and now it wont start. Starter doesnt even try. I noticed some of the wiring is a little different but things seemed to all fit. (my first subaru) WHAT AM I MISSING?!?!?!? also my AT fluid temp light is on for some reason now?
July 10, 201411 yr Check the inhibit switch circuit and make sure 12 volts is getting to the starter solenoid wire when in the START mode..
July 10, 201411 yr Try moving the shift selector to "N" or slightly out of Park. If you switch is not indexed as Cougar said it will not start.
July 10, 201411 yr AT Temp light blinks when there is a fault code for the trans. The oil pan on the transmission is very flimsy, it is not designed to have any weight put on it. If you used a jack head under the trans pan there's a good chance one or several of the solenoids on the valve body were damaged. There are also several wires inside between the pan and valve body which get pinched easily. The Inhibitor switch on the trans likely needs to be adjusted, or the cable needs to be adjusted where it attaches to the selector lever in the trans. Did you make sure the selector was all the way in park before hooking up the cable?
July 10, 201411 yr Author It was in park when I attached the cable. On the 97 trans it had a different selector on the trans with different wire/connector setup so took the metal one off and I switched the plastic one from my bad trans onto it. The AT Temp light isn't blinking, its just on. Its hard to push the button on the shifter. So I guess I'll see what kind of adjustments I can make?
July 11, 201411 yr There is usually a hole in the inhibitor switch where with the shifter in N (P?) the hole lines up with another hole and you can put a pin in. If the holes don't line up, it's misadjusted. If it has the holes.
July 11, 201411 yr If the car has keyless entry/alarm.........you may need to depress the reset button while turning key to "ON" button is ussually mounted very hidden almost behind the and above the hood latch pull....mounted to the dash sheetmetal at it's lowest edge against the kickpanel.
