Two tone BRAT?

Featured Replies

I'm thinking about doing a 2 tone paint job on my BRAT. Probably going to go black on the bottom of it. I'm thinking of doing like the gray is done on gen1 Outbacks. Bring the black up to the line in the body above the lower side molding and follow it up over the wheel arches.

Has anyone else done a similar paint job? If so, please share pics. I wish I could photoshop so that I could get a good idea of what it will look like.

For reference, here are some Outbacks:

And my BRAT

It would look something like this...

That's good! I'm thinking I want to go up over the side trim to the line in the panels and follow that line up over the wheel arches, but this is a very helpful visual.

or what about a black top, to give the look of a soft top ? Black the A pillars, roof, B pillars to about same level as the black of the outer window sill trim ?

Mines not a brat but it goes up over the wheels kinda like you are thinking.

While I think that would actually be an interesting paint job, I really need to paint my new rockers that are just in primer and I need to paint the rust repair over the rear wheel arches which is in primer. The rest of the car is in original paint in decent condition so I was just going to leave it. I should grab an updated picture...

Your paint job has exactly the lines that I'm looking for! I need to get someone to photoshop that layout onto my BRAT with silver up top and black on the bottom.

So I'm definitely going to do this paint job. I'd really love to see it photo shopped first so I have a clear idea what it'll look like.

Any takers?

I did my later model wagon 2 tone back in the 90s.

Looking at the lines on the Brat, I'd be more tempted to use the metal crease line just above the rubbing strip, then follow that line over the wheel arches.

Harder to do with masking, but then it will follow the car all the way around (though I can't tell for the rear cos the cars are black & the shots are dark)

That's a decent idea. I'm pretty sold on using the lower line, but now I'm going to have to consider going higher. Now I REALLY want to see it mocked up on the computer...
