tricks to get crank pulley off?

Featured Replies

Hey there I got an ea82 out of the car i'm gonna crack into but I forgot to loosen the crank pulley bolt before the motor came out. Now there's no fly wheel to grip. I see one option is to hold the cam still with a spanner tool but I don't have one. Any creative ways to hold it still to break it loose? Thanks in advance

Take a closed wrench or drill two holes through a piece of steel. Bolt one side to the outside of the block and the other to your flywheel so it can't spin.

hmmm, well my flywheel is already off but maybe I can still use the same concept is similar way...

I take it you don't have an air impact?   Put an old belt on it and use a big screwdriver to twist it up until its tight then hold the belt while you turn.

Feed about 3 feet of clean, nylon rope.....though a spark plug hole.....it will jam up the piston when it comes up and allow you to remove  the bolt..

I used a rubber strap wrench which worked well for me.

You can also make a spanner wrench from a piece of flat steel and 2 bolts, which will work on the cam sprockets.

I did the very same thing, forgot to loosen before the motor came out. Used an air impact wrench and she came right off.

Holding a Cam sprocket to try and stop the crank is asking for belt slippage/damage...........Fine if the belt is junk.....not good if it needs reused.

Also.....never do this to tighten the crank bolt with a new belt.......You will ruin the new belt.
