Installing stereo with video and rear view camera in 2006 Legacy

Featured Replies

I will be installing a Soundstream VIR-7830BT with TV and rear view camera option in my 2006 Legacy. I need to find the parking brake switch wire. I guess it's probably connected to the parking brake lever, but would think that it is routed through where the stereo is since the light is on the dash. I'm not sure how to get to the parking brake lever, anyway. I suppose that when I have the console disassembled for the installation, it should be easy to access, right? Does anyone know what color it is and where and how to attach it?

I don't plan to use the rear view camera, but I'm curious where to tap into that as well. Seems inconvenient to tap in way back by the reverse lights.

Thanks.

The backup lights are right next to the license plate where the camera mounts, so it is very convenient to use the power wire for them to not only power the camera, but to switch it on and off when you go into reverse.  I don't know why you would have to tap into the parking brake switch wire.

All car DVD systems require that the parking brake be on before the DVD player/Tv will be powered. Simply a safety issue, to prevent some fool watching videos while driving down the road.

I thought the TV was to support the rear view camera.  Makes since if you are watching TV in your car.

In my car the navigation system does not allow modifications on screen if you are not parked. Since this is useless, I hotwired the 'parking brake' with 12v so the unit thinks the car is always parked.

I did it so I can enter an address or look at traffic information with TMC.

I kind of would like a "legal" installation, so I'd like to find that damn parking brake wire without tearing my car apart.  Of course, I can always lift the parking brake a scosche so the light comes on while I drive if I really want to watch TV and drive.  You only have to lift it 1/3" or so.

Rverdoold:  which wire did you connect to for 12v?  Could you use the same wire as supplies the power to the stereo?

I've heard the wire is gray so far, but I still don't know where to find it.

you could start verifyng things by checking wiring diagrams for you car, found here.

(number 45 says something about parking brake...)

Good luck - sounds like a pretty ambitious project.
