Late 90's Autos

I have a 97' Impreza Wagon that has the ability to put it into FWD only mod via insertion of a 20A fuse under the hood.

I was wondering if anyone knows if keeping the car in FWD for extended periods of time would cause as damage to the transmission etc.

My boss does it in his legacy every summer, no issues.  We've got a few customers at the shop that do it too.  Basically, all it does is keep the clutch from engaging the rear drive shaft.

should be fine.

there's no advantage so generally it's pointless to do it for most people.

Exactly, it probably be fine, but your still dragging the rear end, turning the drive line.

The front wheel drive fuse was made for emergency's and short term use when using a spare tire. it just keeps the clutch packs from transferring power to the rear wheels.
