Draining fuel from a 98 WRX

Featured Replies

I need to drain the fuel in a 98 Impreza wrx that was given to me. It was my Inlaws an has sat in the garage for the last 2 years collecting dust. There is about half a tank of fuel in it. The car turns over but won't fire and yes there is new plugs an oil in it... :P I've heard that the fuel tank does not have a drainage plug/screw, An was wonder the best way to drain it...??? Disconnect fuel line before/after filter an run pump or.... ???

Best way I've found is to use one of the cheap fluid pumps from a auto parts store. Commonly found in the gear oil section.

give the fuel pump 12 volts directly and run the hose into a bucket?

just be sure to cut the power upon the tank becoming empty, as the fuel cools the fuel pump, when it is being used. Otherwise, the fuel pump will burn out, if not cooled.

Thank you everyone..!!  I've just joined this site. My partner has a 95 liberty an I have just got a 98 Impreza wrx not running but have know the wrx for 10 yrs.. It was my father inlaws an has been sitting in a shed for the last 3yr... So I'll be asking alot of question's in the near future...

Thanx Again..!!

First check to see if the fuel pump is working. There should be ahatch behind the back seat where you can access the fuel pump and siphon it out from there. 2 year old gas should run and just mix it down with fresh fuel and run it thru, then change the filter.
