Unsuall Thud Thud Sound when slow turning Legacy 2002

Featured Replies

Been with a manual trans Subaru legacy for 3 years now. Awesome product, hit 117200 KM.  :).

Lately i have had a mind puzzling twist to my machine. At slow speeds, i get weird sound to both directions left and right turn. It feels like the car is moving over huge resistance and there is a thudd thudd sound? This is more pronounced after the machine has heated up a little ( moved a distance).

My mechanics- i bet they may not be so smart, have changed front left and rear right shafts, but nothing has changed. Even had a diff oil change, but same day after diff oil change, i had the sound after a drive > 20KM.

Any leads would immensely be useful.

Cheers.

Kinda sounds like torque bind. The center differential in the trans will need to be replaced to fix that.

The main cause of center differential failure is mismatched tire sizes or mixing 2 new tires with 2 old tires.

also, if you have the original timing belt, you are overdue to change it.

umm, no he isnt... 117,200 kilometers = 72,824.703 miles

Not overdue by distance (would you call it kilometerage instead of mileage?) but it is 3 years overdue by 10 year time limit.
