February 10, 201511 yr What type of chemical spray/brush on rust removers do you guys use for surface rust? Ive been looking at Rustolems Rust Reformer but is there anything better out there? thanks!
February 10, 201511 yr It can take some time but we had good luck with KBS Rust Coatings. Used it on a lot of my son's brat parts. So far, so good.
February 17, 201511 yr Central Idaho chase up the Horsey type suppliers and get some Molasses works really well to remove rust.
February 17, 201511 yr Ive used the Permatex rust catalyst stuff, and im actually pretty impressed with it. It doesnt remove it, per se. You need to make sure that any and all scale rust is removed, and that the surface is degreased. I have spots that i treated a decade ago, with the intention of topcoating.....still havent layed any paint down, and the treated area still looks identical to what it back then.

March 9, 201511 yr I bought the three items, cleaner, rust converter and paint. We are on our second Iowa Winter and everything looks pretty good still.
March 14, 201511 yr Metal rescue rust remover bath. I swear by this stuff, freed up a 100 year old rusted tractor gear box in a few days. Non toxic as well
March 15, 201511 yr Author Metal rescue rust remover bath. I swear by this stuff, freed up a 100 year old rusted tractor gear box in a few days. Non toxic as well While that stuff is way cheaper than KBS per gallon, my only problem with it is that it doesnt say that it prevents flash rusting. which is my main concern and also what KBS is advertised to stop.
