forester rear subframe into 99 obs?

Featured Replies

So I'm trying to figure out what my options are for buying a used rear subframe from a junkyard. I've got a 99 OBS. Any help with what different years and different models I can swap in would be appreciated. I have heard that legacies work and wrxs are to wide, is that correct? Can I fit a forester from around the same year? Thanks

The Forester is built on the Impreza platform, so I think it will be too narrow.  Legacy and Outback have the same chassis.

Forester Impreza and Legacy of those years were all the same width. There may be minor differences in the crossmembers but should bolt up the same.

Big things to pay attention to will be the distance from the top of the crossmember to the holes for the lateral link bolts. Also check distance left-right between lateral link bolts. Measure on yours and compare to cars in the junkyard. Also measure center to center of the bolts that hold the crossmember to the frame.

They all use the same diffs (except WRX maybe, but those don't show up in junkyards often) so other than the things above everything else should be good to go. Might be minor differences in the bracket for the exhaust hanger but that's not a deal killer if you need the part.

subaru has a website called opposed forces.  it cross references the parts.  look up a 99 OBS and see if forester cross references.
