Got Some Strange Specs on Timing Belt

Featured Replies

The part that don"t sound right is that they suggest a fraction of a tooth. 46.8 for Z1? Should I just round that off to 47 or am I not getting something here?

If the original marks on the timing belt are worn or faded, make new alignment marks in the positions indicated-1998-2004.

  • Make alignment and/or arrow marks on the timing belt in relation to the sprockets as indicated in the accompanying illustration.
    • Z1: 46.8 tooth length
    • Z2: 43.7 tooth length

i don't think those numbers are right.

iirc,

one side is a whole number,

and the other side is a half.

so instead of the mark being on the tooth, it is on the valley, or vice versa.

but it has been a while since i did one.

what year, engine?

When I did my belt a month ago, no matter what I did one side was half a tooth off. No matter how I routed it or whatever it always ended up that way and it made the timing mark on one side off by just a half tooth. What I ended up doing was making it so that when I pulled the tensioner pin it would pull it back and they ended up in line. So maybe these numbers are right?

Should be

Z1: 44

Z2: 40.5

The spec you found on google looks like its for 05 and later 2.5 with the AVCS heads. Those are wider.
