May 14, 201510 yr I pulled my IAC valve to clean it. I was having an idle from 2200 down to 1500 at start up. How does it work and can it be tested. There is an adjustable 3 wire piece on the top and a coolant connection at the base. So it must open and close by a combination of the temperature of the coolant running through it and a signal from the adjustable connection on the top. I'm looking for description of how the thing actually works and if it can be tested.
May 14, 201510 yr Download the FSM and get all the info you need there. It does work on coolant temp.So the ect sensor must not be defective and the iac itself should not be carboned up. O.
May 14, 201510 yr Its adjustable but you can't adjust it. Mess with the placement of the drive motor and it'll never idle right. There really isn't much to it. If it looks gummed up, clean it. If it still doesn't move easily replace it.
May 14, 201510 yr Whats the FSM and where can I download it? Factory service manual. http://jdmfsm.info/Auto/Japan/Subaru/Legacy%20Outback/
