June 29, 201510 yr Ok guys I need some assistance. I was driving my car about a week ago and it just decided it didnt want to run anymore. Just up and quit. Now i'm getting spark from the coil to the distributor. But nothing to the plug. New cap and rotor. I'm thinking bad distributor. So what do ya'll think? Also is there any way to trouble shoot the distributor so I dont just have to throw parts at it?
June 29, 201510 yr Problem here is the spark from the center terminal is not getting to the spark plug terminals. Only thing i can think of is the rotor is not turning with the rest of the distributor.
June 30, 201510 yr Pull the cap, crank the engine and note if the rotor turns. No turn means broken timing belt. Also, grab the rotor, engine not being cranked, and see if you can spin it on its shaft.
June 30, 201510 yr If the rotor turns and the Timin' belts are alright, your Distributor might have a burnt ignition module. I wrote a small writeup with the testing procedures regarding that: ~► http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/129601-how-to-easily-test-an-ignition-module/ Kind Regards.
June 30, 201510 yr Is this on the 92 Loyale? That car doesnt have an ignition module in the disty. The coil wont pulse spark if the disty isnt turning. Are you getting pulsing sparks? What does the spark look like? If its not bright and blue thats not correct. If the coil or the coil wire are weak the spark may well be too weak to jump gaps. Where are you testing the spark at?
June 30, 201510 yr Author Yes a 92 yes I belive it was pulsing sparks. I was testing off the wire from the coil to the distributor cap. I just put a new coil on it thinking that was the problem so I doubt its a bad coil.
