 If the oil pump (or else where) is sucking air, causing lifters to not pump up solidly,  wouldn't very small bubbles show up in the oil on the dipstick after the engine was run a while ???

If your talking EA82 search the forum for EA82 tick of death or TOD in google. Lots of info about it.
