When I got my '86 Brat with the original EA81, the previous owner had already done a 5sp DR swap on it.

 

I'm curious, which 5speed DR transmissions from which soobies work as a donor EA81 5sp dr swap? 

 

This would be good information to have should I ever need to replace the tranny, as I rather like having the 5-speed.

The 5-spd D/R more than likely came from an '85 + ea82.       The only 5 speeds in ea81 were front wheel drive.

Others here can give specific details on the years that 5 speed DR were available.    All my ea82's are 1985 ... and they all have the DR.

Any year 5 speed DR will will bolt to the ea81. So anything from 85-89.

add that a carb EA82 generally runs the 23 spline front shaft stubs, a fuel injected or at least mpfi and turbo A82s ran 25 splines. Yours likely runs 23 splines. Before replacing box or CVs count the splines

I'm pretty sure mine has the 23 spline, as last time I changed out a CV Axel I used one described as stock for the ea81 (23 spline if I'm thinking correctly).
