August 13, 201510 yr So I've recently acquired a 94 Loyale which is not running. The previous owner crossed the jumper cables while boosting another vehicle, and since then the engine is not getting a spark. It turns over ok and seems to be getting fuel. Distributor and coil have been replaced and fuses/relays have been checked. Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting. I do have a running parts car.
August 13, 201510 yr Author Not yet, thanks for the tip. I've barely had time to look at it yet.....are they easy to find? (I'm new to Subarus) ....little black box beside the coolant reservoir? Edited August 13, 201510 yr by jetpilotdc10
August 13, 201510 yr I crossed the jumper cables on my '88 XT6 once.....fried the fusible link and ECU.
August 13, 201510 yr Author Good to know! Now I just have to find out if a '91 ECU is interchangeable with a '94.
August 14, 201510 yr The black wire in the black plastic fusible link box, (between the battery and the radiator overflow bottle,) is the one that gets fried from jumping issues.
August 15, 201510 yr Author All fusible links are ok, and I have 12V on the 2 outer terminals on the ignition coil. I would think that's all it needs....power at the coil. I did a standard (primary, secondary) coil test. I've also noticed that the light on the ECU does not illuminate. On my other (running) Loyale it blinks 5 times every few seconds. In addition to that, there's no 'check engine' light when the ignition is on. On my other Loyale there is. Also, horn and hazard lights inoperative but they're getting power at the fuse box. August 16, 201510 yr Author UPDATE: Hazard lights are working, horn does not. My biggest concern now is no CEL and no light on ECU with ignition on. I'm guessing that this is not normal? I just tested the ECU in another vehicle and it seems to work fine. Now I'm starting to think it's bad wiring to/from the ECU. Edited August 16, 201510 yr by jetpilotdc10
August 16, 201510 yr Author Problem solved! Found 1 broken wire under the dash. Now the only problem is the engine fires, but doesn't really run. Thanks everyone!!
