September 3, 201510 yr I'm having issues with my wagon, my right rear wheel keeps locking up. It will drive fine for 5 or 10 minutes, then you can feel it start it grab then it locks down completely and drags the tire. Tried replacing the calipers and disconnected the abs, not sure what else to do. Any ideas?
September 3, 201510 yr Does it release on its own, or do you crack a bleeder ? I'm thinking possibly a crushed (steel) or crushing(rubber)brake line that allows pressure in but will not freeflow back , after a few pumps of the pedal pressure builds in the caliper and it can't release ?
September 3, 201510 yr Author It releases on it own. Just turn the car off for a minute and boom, it's fine.
September 3, 201510 yr any work done or wrecks before this began? there's a very rare type of failure inside hydraulic hoses that can create a one-way valve. Edited September 3, 201510 yr by 1 Lucky Texan
September 3, 201510 yr Author Actually yes. I blew my rear main seal a couple of months ago. Tried to haul it to my garage on a dolly, didn't think about it being awd. Screwed up my transmission. Since then I've replaced the rear main seal, clutch, tranny, drive shaft, rear differential, and rear calipers.
September 3, 201510 yr The hill holder lever could be stuck, or If the cable is adjusted too tight it won't fully release and wil hold pressure on the left front and right rear brake.
September 3, 201510 yr tranny? and rear diff ? those 2 MUST have the same final drive ratio or you will get torque bind. next time the wheel locks up, chock the other wheels and carefully jack that corner of the car up - see if the binding is released. Or, see if you can do slow, tight circles in a parking lot smoothly. Edited September 3, 201510 yr by 1 Lucky Texan
September 4, 201510 yr Author Hill holder wins, disconnected the cable and everything works fine. But then my alternator locked up and snapped the belt, but that's completely unrelated.
