September 9, 201510 yr Anyone ever tried to swap a dl dash to a gl dash? I have a 1982 brat dl and the dash looks very plain. I am hoping to get a gl dash from a wagon and swap it. Is there anything I should be aware of. Or is this a fruitless exercise.
September 9, 201510 yr I would get the wiring harness from the donor car that the dash comes from. That should make it a lot easier. It isn't that hard, just take your time.
September 9, 201510 yr Your dash is becoming pretty rare, and I personally like the look of the DL setup. Tachs are cheap, Ide keep the dash just to be one of a kind. Also, you may have noticed its not just the cluster that must be changed.
September 9, 201510 yr The dash in my 82 was swapped for a GL dash. Its pretty straight forward (although time consuming). Make sure you have the GL harness, as well as a few of the sensors that are required for the gauges (like the oil pressure sensor for the pressure gauge and not the dummy light). Mine was changed out because the DL dash was cracked and the GL one wasn't.
September 9, 201510 yr In Australia it is exactly the opposite all Brumby's came with the poverty pack dash and considering the touring wagons mainly had the electronic dash the six instrument analog GL dash is a rare and desireable item, Luckily I have two of them. Provided you get the wiring loom and I made sure I got the full front loom just to make sure I had the wiring for the oil pressure gauge also the only other thing to get is the fuel tank sender unit to make sure the wiring is there for the fuel gauge low fuel warning light, The rear wiring harness is maybe optional as only the one wire needs to be run if not already in your harness to complete the circuit. If however your wiring harness is less than perfect a complete harness would be a useful spare to be repaired and made perfect at your leisure before fitting.
