retiring the 91 loyale. fwd gave out

Featured Replies

today I moved my loyale at work, and the front wheel drive gave out. no matter what gear i'm in, it sounds like grinding and slipping and there is no movement. I can put it in 4wd and it will at least go. The scary part is that i need to drive it home tonight. which is a 35 mile drive from kirkland to maple valley washington. I just really hope it doesn't completely give up to there.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it going to completely die on me?

Sounds like a hub or cvj stripped out. Others on the forum have actually experienced this. And have driven at least short distances on the rear drive half of the 4wd.

If you have a second person you can check to see if the axel nut is turning, etc.

That's most likely not your transmission. Its the axle or the hub and tal relatively easily fixed.

Have a friend put it I. fwd in 1st gear and let the clutch out. Take a look as the axle nuts on both front wheels.. Bet one of them is spinning.
