92 loyale wont start! Help!

Featured Replies

Hey guys i recently purchased my 91 loyale 4wd 5 speed and pulled the engine to fix its many oil leaks and do head gaskets and such. Well i put it all back together and it just cranks but wont turn over i have checked timing replaced cap and rotor cleaned out all the plugs i am getting fuel compression and a slightly weak spark but cant figure out why its weak! Thanks in advance for the help!

1.  Make sure your air cleaner is hooked up.  MAP sensor will not work unless it is drawing air.

2.  Make sure fuel lines are not backwards.

3.  Make sure you tighten the dogsnot out of those round engine connectors.

These are pretty common.  Been there done that examples.

Good Luck

hi, you might try another coil bracket,, there is a transistor made on it and if bad it will not start.. they are a known trouble part.

Okay ill try those and get back to you guys thanks for the fast responses!

Is there any way to test the transistor on the coil bracket? Also where would i go to buy a new bracket ive looked around and cant seem to find anything.

You shouldn't need a new bracket.  Just clean up any rust, and make sure the transistor case is really well connected to the body of the car (ground).

Hey guys so i checked everything that you suggested and cleaned out all connectors and everything. I also replaced the coild cuz it was old and looked a little leaky. I got one little gurgle from the exhaust right when i tried to start it and then nothing again. I rechecked all the timing and it still looked fine except for when we re did it the closest we could get ut was a little under half a tooth off but didnt think anything of it.

Try a 1 to 2 second shot of carb cleaner in the throttle body, then crank. If it fires, you have a fuel problem.

Other thing to try, hold gas pedal about half way down and crank.

It's more volatile, so probably do similar.

Edit:

You said that timing was checked but did make sure that engine was at TDC rotor on #1 ??

Yes i put the engine at tdc on the number one cyclinder on the compression stroke than set the rotor to the number one point on the cap

did the starting fluid work?   If it did not fire, then I would suggest it has no spark.

So i did try the starter fluid thing and it didnt work because i went back throught manuals and i believe i set the timing to the wrong mark after all so ill try that tonight and let you guys know what happens thanks for all the help

So i tried to find the three hashmarks for the timing but cannot find them for the life of me i cleaned off the flywheel even though ut was lretty clean to begin with as i just replaced it with one from oreillys. But i can only find the numbered timing marks

The 3 marks for timing belt install are (very) roughly 180 degrees from the timing marks.

It runs!!! Thanks for all the help guys. I ended up haveing to go to a junkyard and find a flywheel then i measured how far the timing marks were from the 0* mark then transferred that to my flywheel and timed it with that.

Glad to hear it runs!!! Sometimes you rack your brain, and it will the most simple thing.

Hahah no kidding never buy flywheels from oreillys lol
