April 6, 20169 yr I'm putting a 2.2 from a 2001 Impreza with 5 speed into a 2000 Forester with 5 speed. Do I use clutch and flywheel from Impreza or Forester. Thanks Dp
April 6, 20169 yr Use the one that matches the trans....but doubt it matters. ARe they both hydraulic clutches? 2.2 on earlier years was cable; 2.5 were hydro. You have the single-port exhaust y-pipe for the 2.2.? Td
April 7, 20169 yr Author I forgot to ask, do I need to use the cam pullies from the original forester 2.5
April 7, 20169 yr Yes, the EJ222 sometimes uses a MAF/MAP combo system depending on model, and the EJ251 Forester is straight MAP system
April 12, 20169 yr Author I forgot the crank pullies are different, does that matter on which one I use
April 13, 20169 yr Author Well, finished the swap, and no start. Turns over but won't start. Waiting for my son so I can have him turn it over while I check for spark. This is about the 10th swap I have done a motor swap from 2.5 to 2.2 and the first time it didn't start right up:-(
April 14, 20169 yr Author Does the 2000 Forester right side cam pully have 7 timing teeth on the back of it
April 14, 20169 yr Author Swapped pullies and checked timing. It has spark and its getting fuel, but it just turns over and won't start. I used the intake from the Forester, tomorrow I mat swap the intakes and put the one from the 2.2 on and see what happens.
April 16, 20169 yr Author Well, now I'm baffled. I have tried everything and still no start. I am now sitting with a 2001 2.2 motor from an Impreza 5 speed in a 2000 Forester with a 5 speed. I have the intake and pulleys from the Forester on, I have fuel (won't even start with starting fluid). I have spark, I have tripple checked the timing and I replaced the crank sensor. All it does is turn over but won't fire. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks
