Quick Name-the-Part Question

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me the actual name of the fender support part of the front clip?  My brain wants to refer to it as the inner fender, but that's what many call the black  plastic wheel well "cover"...which is also called the fender liner.  I circled in red.  What is the technical name a shop would refer to this as?

Thanks.

i have to head to a meeting but online parts stored, opposed forces, and even ebay help with determining naming conventions like that.

"fender rail" is what i sometimes say, but a quick google search gave unconvincing results, though it did show some smaller components called a "fender rail" that make up parts of the front clip.   one diagram i looked at seemed to suggest like 5 parts were utilized to create that entire rail on the side, not just one.

That's a part of the unibody structure of the car and isn't really a "removable" part, so you wont typically see it with a conventional name.

The best way might be to go to a body shop and ask what they call it. Body shops often use different names than mechanical shops for certain parts. They also tend to have standardized names that are used for insurance companies to identify which part is being replaced, especially in the case of frame and structure work where damaged parts need to be cut out and used parts welded back in place.

The black plastic part is the inner fender.  The part you circled is part of the unibody so technically you can call it part of the frame or part of the body or part of the engine bay.

I'd call it the fender support. Idk what its supposed to be called though.

According to the parts catalogues I've checked it is called the F WHL apron front (left or right) / Brkt F sus comp (left or right).

which I guess translates to front wheel apron (left or right) bracket front suspension complete (left or right)

there is a very good list of manuals for imprezas available here
