Other than simple fixes I don't do much work on my vehicle. My buddy who is a mechanic does it all and my "radio flyer" is the first and only Subaru he's worked on. He's replaced the clutch, rack and pinion, starter, alternator, calipers, timing belt, brakes and pads and shoes. He even opened my transmission when the front seal leaked. My car has been a long list of firsts for him.

My clutch dropped to the floor on Sunday and because he had never adjusted it since he last changed it he added play to it so it could last til next Sunday. I have the clutch kit from rockauto. The day after (yesterday) my brakes seized and had tow to his place. He doesn't believe me when I say the clutch is tied into the brakes. I explained, at an incline all I have to do is have the clutch in and don't have to have the brake pedal down nor have in gear and the car won't roll back. I think when he adjusted the clutch he also adjusted the brakes? To correct the brake seize he disconnected the vacuum hose from the brake sensor and capped it off. Though I have manual brakes (non abs) I can still drive until next Sunday when he can replace the clutch. I think when the clutch is replaced it will fix the brake problems.

My questions are:

1, am I correct in my thinking?

2, is there a way I can explain to him how the clutch corresponds to the brakes?

1993 Subaru Impreza L 1.8

Any help will be greatly appreciated, my Suby is pushing 340k and have yet to have major issues that couldn't be fixed.

Thanks, I did a search and found a lot of useful information. The info I found described the front driver and rear passenger wheels associated with the hill holder, those were the wheels that locked (when put on the flat bed, only two that didn't spin). I am now almost convinced the clutch replacement will fix the problem. Thanks again for responding :)
