October 16, 20169 yr I have a 99 Forester engine that I want to put into a 2000 outback. Only thing I'm not sure of is the oil filter on the Forester motor. It has a big adapter with a couple hoses running to it, where the outback doesn't. Looks like I can just pull the adapter, but 1 hose goes right into the block. Any ideas what to do
October 16, 20169 yr Its an oil cooler. Just put the engine in. O. Edited October 16, 20169 yr by ocei77
October 16, 20169 yr swap the oil cooler over to the new engine or just install it without an engine. pull engine plug, install oil cooler fitting.
October 17, 20169 yr I don't quite understand the issue. If you have a Forester engine with oil cooler, everything should be there. The OB body wouldn't make a difference. Are you mixing engine parts? If so follow advice above^. When I get to another place, I have an engine that I put the oil cooler on, so I can take a pic. Will hopefully get there within the next few days. O.
October 17, 20169 yr Author I think I figured it out. The thermostat housing is missing. I think the other line goes to that
October 17, 20169 yr Yes, the Oil cooler uses a T stat housing that has two ports. One for the cooler and one for the bypass pipe. O.
