November 7, 20169 yr I took my red sedan out yesterday after it sitting for a while. There is play in the wheel that results in a floting feeling on the highway. I haven't had a chance to investigate it yet, but I am thinking tie rod ends. Does this sound reasonable? Is this XY tire wiggle the way to confirm? Edited November 7, 20169 yr by MR_Loyale
November 7, 20169 yr Funny thing you mention that... last night driving after work I was thinking to myself that my steering I pretty dammed good but kinda weird that I drive straight but when I need to correct it sticks in that small adjustment...none the less... for your adjusments here is a link from our board... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/141719-ea82-manual-steering-rack-slack-adjuster/ The experience I have from my other car-1970 Pontiac Tempest-I had the floaty and it was alot!! When I first got it... when you make the steering gear adjustment make them very small! I figured it was so much play that i needed to adjust alot... but! When i did and went for a test drive.. it practically locked!! Very small adjustments sir! Edited November 7, 20169 yr by Len Dawg
November 7, 20169 yr probably steering rack bushings. shake the rack by hand or watch it while someon is turning the steering wheel. if you can see the rack shifting back and forth - it's the steering rack bushings.
November 7, 20169 yr other symptoms of steering rack bushings are when you turn there's an ever so slight delay in turning. you turn right but it feels like it takes a split second for the wheels to catch up or start going so to speak. Edited November 7, 20169 yr by grossgary
