4WD front disc hubs on rear axles?

Featured Replies

Can't seem to find an answer. I'm getting things in order for a rear disc swap on my '84 BRAT. I know that I need 4WD hubs. Are the ea81 front 4WD hubs the same as the ea82 rear 4WD hubs?

No. Other than the basic concept, all the dimensions that matter are different, specifically that fronts are 30 spline, rears are 27.

This is the best tutorial I've seen, its really clear. I'm in the process of doing the same.

You should not need new hubs. You just need backing/mounting plates, calipers, pads, rotors and hose. I believe any Subi with the funky 4 bolt wheel stud pattern with rear discs should work, the only caveat is the donor car and your car need to match regarding FWD vs. 4WD. Someone correct me if I'm off on that...

Yes, Hubs are different between disc and drum (drum cars do not even have separate hubs). In that write-up, the hub and rotor are bolted together, but there are 2 pieces there, and you will need both.

You are correct, thanks for pointing that out.

Thank you!!! There are differences between front and rear 4WD hubs. Got it! Now to get that project started...
