FatCatDoS
Help! Hey guys. Got my 94 Loyale 3at 4wd. My 4wd light comes on but there is no audible clunk from the rear diff kicking in and I don't have rear wheel spin at all. I've been searching on USMB but all I see are fixes for the 5 spd. Anyone know where to start on the auto? I've read they are completely different as to how the 4wd engages.
DaveT
No clunk is normal. The switch activates a solenoid on the side of the transmission. It opens a valve that allows oil pressure into a clutch pack that engauges the rear output shaft.
FatCatDoS
Ok. Found the solenoid. Any easy way to check that it is working? Have a multimeter handy.
DaveT
I'll have to check my FSM when I get back. The switch just applies 12v to it.
naru
Check the fuse! IIRC the bulb uses a seperate fuse. Test the solenoid for an open winding w/an ohmmeter. I had to replace one.
FatCatDoS
My fuse panel only shows one fuse for the 4wd with an AT. I checked it. And changed it.
FatCatDoS
I put my multimeter on ohms and touched the two prongs of the solenoid and it gave me a continuity beep. But when I hooked it back up to the car and didn't thread it in and pressed the 4wd button it did not engage.

DaveT
The transfer solenoid is on the extension section. Same side as the governor.but way further back, and lower. 2 wires. Check for 12V on it when in 4WD. Check that current flows. I just measured one, it is 4 Ohms.
naru
Got power? Got ground? One side of the connector should have 12V. The other should be grounded w/the switch is activated
FatCatDoS
Update: I got the solenoid working but it still appears I have no 4wd. Any idea what to check now?
