I bought a vw bus with a subaru conversion.  

 

Its in storage out of state and I can't get to the engine to read the codes.

 

Can someone help me identify what this is?

 

I need to buy a water pump for it.

It's a ea81. Look for a water pump for a 84 subaru brat.

thanks - is there a way to tell if its 1600 or 1800?

Top front of Left side of engine has the engine series ID cast into it.

Ea81 is a 1800

Ok, can you point me to a picture of the series ID casting code so that I know where to find it?

 

Or can you definitively tell that this is an EA81 - if so what are the cues?

Should be on the front of the motor right under the distributor cap facing up...
