Storing older parts cars/sections - how long to cut off a front clip?

Featured Replies

Anyone here do anything besides keep a parts car sitting on their property? Or am I in a minority since few rust belt folks drive these and others don't have as hard a time getting parts?

I have two XT parts cars and would like to reduce to one or none by my house.

Parking them in my fields means grown up, rodents and ugly.

Cutting out rear quarters, glass, bumpers sounds time consuming but probably what I'll do. I'll probably just pay a window guy to come remove all the glass.

How fast can I torch a rear quarter panel or front fender rails off?

I could build a pole building maybe and make it big enough for one and my tractor and equipment.

Anyone else?

Man oh man, can I relate.

Currently in my yard:

I've got 5 xts and xt6s , 2 or 3 of which are just parts cars now.

an EA81 parts car.

And my wifes 99 Forrester that got rearended (future gambler 500 rig)

Not to mention my personal "complete car" projects that the parts are for.

EA81 4wd sedan, Lifted EA81 wagon, Bigger lifted t-cased XT, EJ22 FT4wd XT "daily", and a crazy EJ25d 'FWD 80 DL  and 2 XT6's slated for paint and restoration (one will be ER27 5spd, stock.  Other will be EJ253 and 4.44 auto)

Oh and we've got My 98 Forester and My wifes 03' LL Bean H6 wagon.

Oh and my 73 dodge 1-ton flatbed, and a 79 International 44' school bus.

So yeah.......not sure I'm the best person to ask.

I have a Daily driver EA82 and a spare EA82 taking way too much space in my garage. RUST bucket.

Auto recycler's inventories are trending WAY too low from 10 cars readily available down to now only one.

I plan to take the best of that spare car and send it on it's way to the crusher. D/R trans,  axles etc...

I'm not worried about glass.

I am more concerned about... oil pumps, engine temp sensors, rare and hard things to find: oh that and GD coming in here telling me it's a dead platform.

Anyway for storage, instead of my garage, I intend to move said important parts to a stainless steel rack (still in my garage but much smaller)

There are no XT6 in the area at all.

Haha. By yard do you where you live and sleep or where you work?

How does that EJed XT drive? Gas mileage? Mountains I imagine are a breeze?

How fast can I torch a rear quarter panel or front fender rails off?

I would not use a torch.  I once cut up a complete XT6 using just a Sawsall (sp?). Really didn't take that long. Something like a nibbler or cut-off wheel  would be better for the panels.

Thanks John I added a nibler to my cart, I've wanted one before. Good suggestion. I have a shed roof to replace I can cut too.

As for the torch I was just wondering if I could torch out a section way bigger than just the panel - more like the rear 1/4 of the car. But that's pointless I should just rip a panel out, if any damage is worse than that I probably can't fix it.
