1992 SVX Camshaft and Crankshaft Sensors

Featured Replies

I have a 92 SVX and it is a project. I got the car it was all there just been abused but was running. I was driving it and started accelerating and it just quit running and would not start. Could smell fuel in the cylinders and it would cough and that was it. Pulled the cover off the timing belt and it was there in good condition. So I thought it might be a timing sensor. Replaced it with a new one and still same isssue. Doing on line research about the crank sensor and its location I find conflicting information about a 3rd sensor possibly by one of the coil packs? Checking, Rock Auto, when I type in crankshaft sensor it takes me to the camshaft sensor. Are these the same part? I find conflicting information on that as well as being able to use a crank sensor from the same year of Legacy with a install modification. Is there a third sensor and where is it? I have a ordered a repair manual but it wont be here for awhile. Thanks for any info. When I get it presentable I will post pics, I love these cars.

Subaru engines use one crank and one cam sensor.

They rarely fail. Talk to the ECU. Use a scope to verify sensor waveforms. Troubleshooting with VISA will get you nowhere.

GD, in that case. My EG33 has two sensors above the crank that both look identical (bolt hole is in a different spot) one I know is the crank sensor. But it has another one right next to it?

Do you know what the other one is?

I have the same question.  What is the sensor that is next to the Crankshaft position sensor ?

They do in fact have two crank sensors. I've never heard an explanation as to why. The EG33 is unique in the Subaru world in this respect.
