Know of any good Subaru Shops in the Chicagoland area?

Featured Replies

I've got a 1987 XT GL-10 Turbo, and need a good tune up, it keeps bogging down after 15 minutes, then I turn it off/on and i pops right back again.

Already spent $450 on a new fuel pump, and it didn't do a bit of good, a shop in Schaumburg IL diagnosed it, but still runs the same.

Don't want to keep throwing money at it, want to find a mechanic who knows these older cars.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Chuck.

hmm... runs well until 15 min. and then repeatable.

pressure builds in the fuel system for just a few seconds prior to run, so not likely a fuel filter issue.

I'm thinking it is more sputtering at 15 minutes from the Cat converter being plugged. too much pressure, and not enough time.

When plugged some exhaust can still escape so low RPMs are ok.

Confirmation test:

Try staying in 1st gear as fast as your comfortable going and run in highest RPM.. see if it chokes much quicker.

Run with the exhaust disconnected at the heads or yoke before the cat.

... but that's not your question..

No. I don't know of any good shop in Chicago.

Not that they don't exist, it's just I don't live there, or have any opinions about those that do.

North if you'd drive that far is Miles Fox. Just a thought. Last I knew he was still up Milwaukee way. If interested search his name here and contact him.

They tell you those pumps are like $300+ so I understand how you paid so much. But there are cheaper alternatives. I freaked out when I had the same engine as you and needed that pump too.
