So I'm looking at replacing the engine my '01 Forester. just want a sanity check here to make sure i don't go off half cocked. mostly, just want to confirm that i can swap it with any EJ251 engine, and if there is anything else i should keep in mind either sourcing the replacement or, installing it.
November 29, 20178 yr EJ251, EJ252 or early EJ253 or even an EJ253 up to 2004. Swap cam and crank sensors. Cheap way out is a JDM EJ20 engine. EJ201/202/203 swap cam and crank sensors and use USDM intake. Very simple swap

November 29, 20178 yr Keep the sensors that match YOUR cars electronics. camshaft/crankshaft is correct.
