August 19, 20187 yr I have a 2005 Legacy wagon , not an Outback ! Anyhow I have the wiring bundle problem that others have had ! The reception comes and goes ! I have had it fixed twice and just returns. Right now I have it cobbed up ! With a wire fished outside on top of my roof and taped to my roof rack, and it sort of works fine ! Anyhow , I know that there is a Clarion signal amplifier back there ! Does anybody know how much it boosts ? I saw this antenna on Amazon for a mere $15+ bucks. And it says it has a 16db booster ! I thought I'de get it and maybe bypass the Clarion booster and head into the car ! Or better yet......would the Clarion booster boost the new signal from this antenna ? THANKS !
August 19, 20187 yr there should be an amplifier back there but, Subaru has moved it around across the years and models. maybe search the diagrams at www.opposedforces.com ?
August 19, 20187 yr Author I can see the Clarion booster . What I was getting at , or my question , just how many db boost does it give, and the other question is if I get this other antenna with it's own boost can I put it through the Clarion and get even more db boost ? And by the way that link doesn't work . Thanks !
August 20, 20187 yr dunno about 'stacking' antenna boost - maybe contact user botenredwolf at subaruoutback.org , he's a car audio guru. http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/ http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/
August 21, 20187 yr The first booster is acting as a pre-amp. In the RF world, that's pretty acceptable. Just remember it will amplify everything, noise included. Usually not a huge problem for modern radios. The signal strength coming from the antenna is low power. So having a bit of a preamp won't hurt the inputs of another amp. I use the same technique for my cell phone booster. I use a 9db antenna fed to the amp. Hope it helps.
