Transmission Noise

Featured Replies

1984 4 speed dual range 4wd.

Transmission just started making noise today. It sounds like a light grinding/humming noise. Like a bad bearing. Makes the noise when clutch is engaged but car is in neutral. As soon as I push the clutch pedal down it goes away. Googles telling me a bad input shaft bearing? I'm not a transmission repairman by any means. Any ideas?

Throw out bearing or input shaft bearing.

Not sure how to differentiate, someone will know. I’ve scoured the forum before to figure the diffenrences out.

Input shaft bearing. Put in a 5 speed. The 4 speed is garbage.

I'd like to keep 4wd. Will a newer 5 SPDR bolt up to an ea81?
