November 28, 20196 yr well I just had the mighty ea82 down too the short block new gaskets and seals but its still consuming a lot of oil. rear hatch is speckled with soot. with the heads off I did the valve seals but cheeped out on doing the guides. the guides felt ok but one exhaust valve was a bit tight. I used my thumbs of steel to seat the valve seals and used the little plastic sleeve when installing and used lots of lube. could I have not seated the valve stem seals all the way ? could the guides be so worn that new seals would not have helped ? or could it be the rings? there was a small step on the top of the bore ... ea82 consuming about 1L for every 400 km
