White Spoke Wheels - Spacers

Featured Replies

I have a 1987 DL Wagon with the steel wheels.  I want to put some white spokes on it.  I remember from prior research that there were white spokes available for the EA-82 cars, and that they fit later cars, but not the other way around.

I bought some wheels off ebay and seem to have 3 late and 1 early.  I looked at the rest of the wheels the guy has for sale and it looks like including the one early wheel I have he has a grand total of 3.  SAD.

I assume I'll need spacers.  So I don't have to guess, anyone know what values I'd have to put in on this page?  https://www.uswheeladapters.com/shop/custom-4-lug-wheel-spacers/

Also, is the difference even noticeable?  I was thinking of just getting another "late" style so they match.

I think you have your labels reversed.

The top one is a late style w/more clearance for ea82 calipers.I have a set of both.

Late wheels fit early cars, but, early wheels don`t clear ea82 calipers.

I do not know what size spacer you need.

Didn`t someone grind  calipers for early wheel clearance on a late car?

Ah. OK.  That makes sense that more clearance would be "Late".

Is a 1987 DL Wagon is "late" in this context?

Yes,Any ea82 is late,any ea81 is early.

Should use the same type left/right as they have different offsets IIRC.

That early rim with the flatter curve in the spokes will fit the rear drum brakes no worries.

Always look for the bend in the spokes when buying this style of rim for your L series ;)

OK, so if I get one more of the ones with the sharper curve, I can run two of those on the front, and two of the ones with the flatter curve on the back?  I guess I wouldn't be able to rotate the tires but that's fine.

There is a pretty big difference in backspacing.  The (what I now know are) late rims have more backspace.
